Happy National Guacamole Day!

Did you know that today, September 16th, is National Guacomole Day? I didn't either, but after the summer that we've had, I will take any chance I get to turn a regular day into a celebration!

I'm really excited to be working with National Today, a website that keeps track of every fun holiday and social celebration! And today, we celebrate the most delicious of all Tortilla chip accompaniments. But in the future, when my children wake up cranky and I need a way to turn our day around, I will be referencing National Today for the holiday of the day.

In order to celebrate National Guacomole Day, we obviously needed to make some homemade, dairy free Guac. Most store brands contain dairy which Maple can't have and I choose not to have.

The kiddos and I took over Grammy's kitchen and garden to make some fresh Guacomole!

We didn't follow a recipe but our Guac turned out delicious. And as I always like to disclaim when I share recipes, I am not a food blogger!

We used:
2 ripe avocados
2 cloves of garlic minced
1/2 of a red onion
4 roma tomatoes
a few sprigs of cilantro, fresh from the garden
a little salt and pepper to taste

We finely chopped the onion in the Cuisinart along with the cilantro. I cubed the tomatoes. Judah went ham on mashing the avocado.

We then added it all together with a bit of salt and pepper and gently stirred.

Picking (and sniffing) the Cilantro
It came out delicious!

Special thanks to my mother for taking the photos for this post. She's always obliging when I ask her to take an outfit picture but when I asked if she'd help with this post, she was ALL about it. She cleared her counters and was switching out plastic spatulas for vintage vegetable choppers, making sure to get her antique cookie jar in the shot. She even ushered us to the gardem, vintage scissors in hand, to stage shots of us picking fresh cilantro. For someone who rarely goes on instagram, she has a future as an #instagramhusband or as an #instagrammy, as I started calling her!

Will you be celebrating National Guacamole Day?
